The Dish on Hogarth

100_8159.jpg (1228991 bytes)

I loved playing with my friends at your school. I loved singing the best. I liked using the scissors, too.  3-year old Mike

The following quotes were taken from notes, letters and emails received from Hogarth parents and former students over the years.  The originals are available for viewing at Hogarth.

It has been said that every great organization has a clearly defined and vibrant culture and the Hogarth Country Day School has such spirit!  Your academic program is clearly defined, comfortably sequenced and substantive, however, I am pleased to say that is not the focus of your preschool experience.  Hogarth consistently integrates a wide variety of creative experiences that enrich the lives of children.  Whether through dance, foreign language, drama, art, athletic development or conversation, these activities lead to the development of whole children.  Children who are interesting, confident, and most of all, 'ready and eager to learn'.  From my experience, I know that this type of environment is not the result of chance or coincidence.  Rather it results from the hard work, cooperation, talents and knowledge of people who care.  You are such people, and for this we thank you.  M.J., M. Ed., Ph.D.

I hope that this e-mail finds you well.  I don't know if you remember the Dawley family.  Karen and I had three kids in Epping a while back: Matt, Katie & Shawn.

  • You called Matt "a peace maker" when you had him in school.  He's now 21 and finished his junior year in college.  Matt  was Captain of his High School football team, Senior Class President and is an Eagle Scout and a National Merit Scholar (full academic scholarship!).  He's in an honors biochemistry/pre-med course of study at the University of Oklahoma.

  • I believe that you had Shawn for one year of pre-school.  The "little guy" has now finished his freshman year at Dover High School and is the biggest person in the family.  He just became an Eagle Scout in May, is a two-way tackle on his football team and is an all around loveable teddy-bear of a kid.

  • When you told Katie that she could be anything that she wanted to be, even the first woman President, she listened.  Fosters Daily Democrat asked Katie which of her teachers influenced her the most and she named you, 12 years after she left Hogarth's!!!   See attached article.   Katie is now a 2nd-degree black-belt in karate, was Commander of Dover's ROTC Unit, Captain of her Lacrosse team and was elected Governor at NH Girl's State this year.  She will be inducted into the US Naval Academy at Annapolis on July 1st.  Her long-term aspirations are to become a Navy pilot, then an astronaut...

Karen and I are very proud of our kids and I wanted to share their successes with you.  Thank you for all that you did for them.  The good work that you do with our youngest citizens influences their entire lives!  D.D.

I'm sure you will remember me as I was one of your most enthusiastic students at Hogarth! How are you? It's been so long, tell me what's been going on!

The other day I suddenly realized how much your musical influence has affected my life. Since I was 12 (I'm 16 now) I have been immersed in music, first teaching myself to play keyboard, then drums, then starting to play guitar at 13. I found myself another amazing teacher who has been teaching me since then and I am now what I should think is fair enough to say a really good electric guitarist.

I've been in Sotogrande International School here in Spain for the last two years, and there I have been best in music class and gotten top grades most of the time. I recently took a music theory exam at Grade 3 level and I am not sure yet, but I think I passed it well. I have been also teaching myself to sing for the last year and have been told I have a great ear for getting things on key. I have played in several school concerts, some with up to 1000 people, all amazing experiences.

This coming week I will be playing 3 songs, including one by Gary Moore and another by Van Halen, in a recital. Then the day after that, there will be a charity concert where I will sing and play the guitar in a band. I have learnt to use basic recording software and created an amateur album of my own work for a school project which got top marks. My dream is to become a solo artist.

If I had not learned to have such a love and passion for music from such a young age, I could never have had such success and direction in my life. Thank you so much.

I remember how you used to have students my age writing you or visiting you to thank you for their time with you! Well now I'm one of them! :)  Ashley, Hogarth Alumnus, Class of 1999.

Ashley said she had emailed you, so I thought I would as well to thank you again for all you've done.

So much is going on in Ashley's life in terms of music right now- it's really exciting. Virtually ever since she left Hogarth and we moved to Spain she's been interested in music, and as you know in the last 2 1/2 years she's had a tutor/mentor who's helped her get to the level she's at now.

John and I are absolutely certain she couldn't have gotten there if it hadn't been for her inspiring years at Hogarth.  Besides the musical aspect, the skills she learned while she was there... perseverance, independent thought, taking on challenges, responsibility and helping others, have all helped her achieve so much for her 16 years. C.H., Ashley's Mother

You are one of a kind! We will miss you! I am grateful that our son began his school journey at Hogarth. He absolutely loved it and is excited about kindergarten. What a wonderful program. I'll keep spreading the word about how great you are! Thank you! A.L.

I am so sorry that my Hogarth years are over. I would keep my kids there forever if I could. You have brought joy, love, kindness, learning to all of them and they all remember their years at Hogarth with fondness. Thank you for having such an important and nurturing role in my children's lives. No thanks is enough!!! K.H.

We just want to thank you for providing a safe, warm, nurturing, educational, and joyous place for our girls to learn and grow for the past five years.  Never once did I worry about them when I left them in your care.  Just knowing that if their feelings got hurt or if they ever felt upset about something, I knew you would be there for them.  You are a very special teacher and person, Andrea.  You have a wonderful school, a wonderful Mrs. Lamparelli, and a wonderful place for a child to leave Mom for the first time and venture out into the world!  We will miss you, Miss Murphy!  L.P.

I just wanted to say thank you so much. Both of my boys respect and love you dearly. Thank you for the wonderful job you do everyday. D.S.

Before the year ended, I wanted to thank you for making the extra effort with the blog.  It's really been a wonderful thing being able to see pictures from afar.  And I know that the school, you and your staff's care, and the warm reception from the other children, has made Hogarth a special place for my child.  Best regards as you move forward with your great school.  D.C., Ph.D.

You know I adore you; your talent, your dedication, your enthusiasm! Many thanks for making my son's preschool experience unforgettable and amazing.  A.S.

You have made our daughter's first year of school an amazing and positive experience.  Thank you!  L.G.

For all the love, kindness and dedication, we are forever thankful! Your "moment in time" in our son's life will never be forgotten.  A.P.

Thank you, Ms. Murphy for all your help caring with my son. Both my boys love you so much. D.S.

Thank you for all you have done for our son this year. He is so fortunate to have such a patient and supportive teacher. S.H.

Thanks for such a wonderful start to our son's school career. He had such a great time at Hogarth and we look forward to the next two years!  T.D.

Saying "thank you" just doesn't seem enough when I think about how far our daughter has come since day one. We're both going to miss you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!  E.R.

We don't even know where or how to begin to thank you for everything you have done for our son this year! We have seen such a positive change in him since September! You have been the perfect introduction to school and he LOVES school and having you as a teacher!! You truly have a special gift and we thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts!  P.L., M.Ed.

My husband and I would like to thank you for all you've done for our son this past school year. His transition to Hogarth was so smooth and effortless, thanks to you. He loves going to school and learning from a teacher as wonderful as you. We are looking forward to spending another year at Hogarth!  A.T.

You already know just how much we love you. We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful first teacher for our children!  Looking forward to next year!  C.K.

We would like to take this time to say a special thank-you for all you have done in helping create what we think is the most amazing kid in the entire world.  The difference in our son is beyond words!  Each week brings something new.  You have given our little boy belief in what he can do.  As parents, we will never forget!  A.P

I want to thank you for the make-up classes.  I did not expect this of you and think it is very kind of you and once again shows us that we chose the best facility and teacher for our son.  I can only speak to others of how happy we are with Hogarth, and it has been amazing watching the change in our son and seeing him excel as each week passes by.  S.M.

We can't thank you enough for giving our daughter such a wonderful start in her learning journey. You have a special gift and we want to thank you for sharing it with our little girl. We'll think of our Hogarth years fondly. J.M.

You have no idea how much we appreciate what you have done for our son this past year!  He has learned so much and has surprised us many times by reciting your cute songs and poems.  He is really sad that his year at Hogarth School is over now -- and we are, too!  U.H.

We will always remember how Lauren blossomed through Hogarth's nurturing environment and daily challenges.  We hope that the Hogarth Country Day School will continue to provide children in our area with its dedication and excellence for many years to come. C.H.

There hasn't been a day that she hasn't come home with some 'project' which she just had to explain to gramma and grampa;  a new song she had learned and wanted to teach us;  or more questions on an intriguing subject Miss Murphy had brought up in class.  C.H.

Just though I'd write and say thanks for the good start.  I'd certainly have to say that kindergarten was the best year of school I've had yet.  I hope I get to take fingerpainting when I go to UNH next year.  A.H., Hogarth Alumnus, Class of 1981.  She went on to major in art at both UNH and the Rhode Island School of Design.

I was a member of the first class to graduate Hogarth in 1981.  I went to 16 additional years of school after that, but the year at Hogarth was the best.  Andrea had so much energy and boundless enthusiasm that every day was a new adventure. Another letter from A.H.

Liz will move on to the larger world of regular school, but we will greatly miss the wholesome, happy atmosphere you created at Hogarth.  R.S.

Thank you so much for being a wonderful teacher for our son.  He has learned so much in the past two years.  You have gotten him off to a great start.  A.L.

It's hard to put into words all the wonderful things I feel for you and the excellent job you have done in the past four years with my children.  I feel like Hogarth has been an extension of our family!  W.J.

Words cannot express what you have meant to our family! K.W.

You are just my favorite teacher, Andrea.  I'm always telling people what a wonderful school you have and how you not only teach, but love your little children.  M.F., Hogarth Grandparent
