Hogarth Country Day School Established 1980

Because of the extraordinarily snowy winter and the unexpectedly excessive number of school cancellations, I am offering make-up classes for every session that had to be canceled this winter. I understand these cancellations were often most inconveniencing for parents, and trust that the opportunity to make-up those missed days will diminish the impact they may have had. I understand that my driveway and parking area are less than optimal during the icy winter and muddy spring months. I spoke with an engineer from FEMA after last spring's flooding who advised me that the development on Route 125 has had a negative impact on the way water runs off and snow melts. Because so many trees have been pulled up (a mature tree can soak upwards of 500 gallons of water a day) and so much ground has been covered with pavement, water that used to go directly into the earth is now running off in search of a resting place. Because of the local topography, the water that has always run through my property and down to the river, has increased drastically and with quite dramatic results, as you all witnessed this winter. This same engineer advised me that putting down pavement on my own driveway would be a temporary fix, a "band-aid" solution that might give me a few hassle-free years. He said water would continue to run-off, and that sooner rather than later I'd be dealing with crumbling pavement, potholes, and endless maintenance. I sought a second-opinion from another engineer, as well as a third-opinion from a person in the paving business, and they each agreed that in the long run I am better off with a gravel driveway. Which brings us back to our make-up schedule. As I said above, I'm offering sessions for every canceled class this winter. This does not mean I am changing my Snow Day/Cancellation Policy. This is a fine and fair policy for typical school years, which this year most certainly has not been! Because I factor 3 days lost to weather into my tuition schedule each year, you are all actually receiving a free week of school. Enjoy! EARLY KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN who normally attend 3 mornings missed 10 days. We have already made up 4 of those days. The extra week of school added for June 2nd, 3rd and 4th brings you up to 7 compensatory days. Additional EK classes are scheduled for Thursday, April 17th, Friday, April 18th and Thursday, April 24th, which brings the total of compensatory classes offered to 10. PREKINDERGARTEN A CHILDREN who normally attend 3 afternoons missed 8 days. We have already made up 3 of those days. The extra week of school added for June 2nd, 3rd and 4th brings you up to 6 compensatory days. Additional PK classes are scheduled for Thursday, April 17th and Thursday, April 24th, which brings the total of compensatory classes offered to 8. PREKINDERGARTEN B CHILDREN who normally attend 2 afternoons missed 6 days. We have already made up 4 of those days. The extra week of school added for June 2nd, 3rd and 4th gives you all your compensatory days. No other additional PKB classes are scheduled. |
