Dear Committee Members:

Andrea Murphy, Director and Teacher of Hogarth Country Day School, Epping, NH should be nominated Kindergarten Teacher of the Year for many reasons.  Ms. Murphy offers a safe and caring environment in a pleasant country setting, offers several different types of learning activities, and sees every child as someone special.

Ms. Murphy has been teaching and operating her own school for 20 years and does so with much interest and enthusiasm.  She has a talent to play the piano and offers music and songs in her curriculum on a daily basis.  The children work on reading, writing and mathematics skills on a daily basis as well.  Throughout the year this includes making alphabet books, yearbooks, brainstorming subject lists, and counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, etc. to name a few.  A child is highlighted each week as a "mystery kid" on the daily message, which is read aloud by the whole class.  A special booklet is made by their peers, developing self worth and friendship.  The children have sufficient free time to use their imaginations in whatever way they choose with a vast array of items to spark a young mind.  Through these types of activities it is obvious that Ms. Murphy perceives each child as an individual by knowing their preferences and interests, as well as letting them pursue their own individuality.  She will always listen to what a child has to say!

Ms. Murphy keeps all parents well-informed of their child's progress with parent conferences twice a year, more often if necessary.  A bi-monthly newsletter is also sent home informing parents of the activities the children have worked on as well as a list of books and songs they have been enjoying.  Ms. Murphy has an open mind for any educational activity suggested by parents or staff that she feels will be beneficial to the students.  Ms. Murphy is a warm and caring teacher who genuinely teaches her children with compassion and vigor, and instills confidence and love of learning.  She has a passion for teaching and it shows through the children's eagerness to learn and the smiles on their faces.

Sincerely,
The Parents of the Hogarth Country Day School Students
